Wednesday: Final midweek action of the season

It's the final Wednesday night schedule of the 2023/24 season, as we enter the last week of regular season games this campaign.

The playoffs are already locked in for two of tonight's teams, while the other four are still trying to book their place in the post-season.

The 7pm faceoff tonight is in Fife, where the Flyers are entertaining league champions Sheffield Steelers. The Flyers are one of only two teams that have inflicted a road loss for the Steelers this season, and go into this game in seventh, part of a three-way tie on 49 points, and one point ahead of Coventry who are just outside of the playoff places. The Steelers need three points this week to break 90 points for the season, and will head to Belfast for a double-header in their final weekend.

Second-placed Cardiff Devils can't finish any higher or lower, but their opponents Dundee Stars could still end the season anywhere from sixth and tenth. A win here would almost secure them a playoff spot, though not guarantee it. They face Fife this weekend in a home and home to round off the season. Dundee head to Cardiff with two straight wins behind them,

In Coventry, it's almost a 'must-win' game for the Blaze when they host Manchester Storm. With their visitors already locked into a top five finish position, the Blaze need to win here to keep their destiny in their own hands heading into the final weekend - A point wouldn't be enough for Coventry to be in control of things themselves, however, as their regulation wins total is somewhat lower than most of the teams they're chasing, so they need a win to climb above the three teams in front of them. Anything less and they'll be relying on results else over their final two games.
