Great Britain continued their unbeaten start to their IIHF World Championships Division 1A campaign with an overtime victory over hosts Romania.
Guildford Flames' Josh Waller needed just 31 seconds to put GB ahead as the hosts got into a mess in their own zone, and he slotted the puck home. `A giveaway on the offensive blue line allowed Romania to break forward later in the period, and, while Belfast's Jackson Whistle denied the initial attempt, Balazs Gajdo tied the game at 9:31.
Giants' Ben Lake combined with Sheffield Steelers' Robert Dowd for GB's best chance of period two, while Logan Neilson and Devils' Brett Perlini both went close in the middle period.
Dowd came closest to giving GB the win in the third period, while Whistle came up big to deny Tamas Reszegh.
With both teams taking a point, GB needed just 31 seconds to win the game in OT. Romania wanted a penalty on the play, but as GB retained possession of the puck Cade Neilson cut inside and fired home his own rebound to win the extra point.
GB are next in action against Japan on Wednesday.
