Fan All-Star Team: Second Line

Over 500 nominations

From Friday 27 March until Friday 3 April, we asked fans to vote for their All-Star team of 2019/20. Each voter had to submit two full lines including a goalie, two defensemen, and three forwards.

The results of the first line were announced last week, and now we can tell you who was chosen for line two:

  • Goalie - Matt Ginn (Manchester Storm)
  • Defensemen - Marek Trončinský (Sheffield Steelers) & Drydn Dow (Dundee Stars)
  • Forwards - Brendan Connolly (Sheffield Steelers), Marc-Olivier Vallerand (Sheffield Steelers), Janne Laakkonen (Coventry blaze)

Ginn ended with the second-highest save percentage in league games at 92.11% over 49 starts for the Storm. He faced an average of over 35 shots per game, also the second-highest in league action. 18 wins placed him among the league's top five goalies for victories.

Czech defenseman Trončinský joined the Steelers in mid-October and came in with a wealth of experience from his county's top league plus a few seasons in the KHL. He scored 12 goals and assisted on 30 others to average almost a point per game in league action! At +24, 'Tron' had one of the highest plus-minus records around. Dow was the third-highest defenseman across the entire Elite League with 41 points in 48 games, while scoring 14 goals made him the EIHL's highest-scoring defenseman.

Sheffield scored more goals than any other team this season, and it's no surprise to see two of their forwards on our second line. Connolly ended the season third overall for points after notching 55 in 48 league games. He also chipped in with another eight in the cup, ending the season with 28 goals overall In his previous two seasons, the 34-year-old had scored at least 60 points and would on track to do so again. Teammate Vallerand return to the EIHL after a season abroad and made an immediate impact. He scored 26 goals and assisted on 25 for the Steelers in just 40 league games, and also put up 11 points in 12 cup fixtures. Finally, Finn Laakkonen was an instant hit in his first season in Coventry. At 37 forward, who has played in all corners of Europe during the latter part of his career, was an assist machine as he notched 40 in 43 games on the way to hitting 49 points overall. He was also a point per game player in the cup.
