Retrospective: Week 1

The first official week of EIHL action in both league and cup got underway at the beginning of September. Let's take a look back and see what unfolded!

Before teams started league games, Belfast and Cardiff both headed on the road for Game Days 3 and 4 of their Champions Hockey League campaigns. After both sides beat Czech opposition a week earlier, it was a disappointing night of defeat for the Devils against Mountfield and the Giants in Liberec.

Saturday brought the official start of the EIHL season and the first puck drop of the new season was in Guildford:

Coventry proved that they were going to be a team to watch in the 2019/20 season by taking a 6-4 win in Sheffield, which would be the first of two victories at the House of Steel in the season:

While Manchester got an early-season win against Dundee - these teams would be locked in a battle for the playoff places later in the season:

In the Challenge Cup, Glasgow got their first win on the board away to rivals Fife:

Back in the CHL, Cardiff because only the second Elite League team to win an away game with an excellent 5-2 win in Graz to leave them top of their group after four matches!

Sunday saw the Steelers avenged their home loss to the Blaze by winning at the Skydome, while Fife got a cup win in Dundde and Belfast were narrowly beaten by a late goal in Augsburg:
