Belfast Giants continued their strong start at the top of Group B of the Challenge Cup with a 3-1 win in Dundee on Friday night, their second win of the season on Tayside.
Nicholas Guay got on a rebound from brother Patrick's shot to open the scoring at 17:38. The Giants had the better of the possession in the opening period, but the Stars called Jackson Whistle into several last-ditch saves on a powerplay midway through the period. Ciaran Long doubled the visitors' lead when he was given time and space to shoot home from the circle 8:05 into period two. Christian Berger made it three four minutes later to put the Giants firmly in control.
Dundee pulled a goal back with 9:39 to play. Max Eliseev set Sebastian Bengtsson free down the wing, and he shot high over Whistle to get the Stars on the board.
With Carl Stankowski pulled, Belfast missed a chance to go further ahead when Jake Gaudet shot wide of the empty net from an angle with two minutes to play. Dundee couldn't create a chance to get themselves back to within one, and Belfast took the two-goal win.
