Fife Flyers continued their good start to the season with an overtime home win over Dundee, with the Stars picking up their third point of the weekend.
A Miika Partanen slapshot put the Flyers one up with 7:15 gone at Fife Ice Arena. The hosts saw their lead taken away when former Flyer Scott Jameson scored 37 seconds later, before Kris Inglis' shot from distance went all the way through at 11:32, possibly taking a deflection in front.
The Flyers levelled just past the 14-minute mark as Kyle Watson got on the end of Michael Drábek's throw on net to tie the game at 14:27.
In the second, the main chance fell the way of the Stars after Evan Dougherty was ejected for interference. On the five-minute powerplay, however, the Flyers had just as much possession as their visitors as the Stars failed to take advantage. Mike Petizian came close at the far post, while Drábek shot over as the Flyers pushed to take the lead.
Fife came closest to winning the game in the third period on a late penalty to Powell Connor, but Carl Stankowski was able to stop the puck trickling over the line. Craig Moore also made an important block with the Stars’ goalie out of position.
The game went to overtime, where the Flyers won it. The home side controlled possession for the majority of the 2:40 of the extra period, before a bizarre winner settled the game. A Victor Bjorkung shot went high off Stankowski, and as Rasmus Nousiainen tried to clear it he inadvertently knocked the puck into his own net.
