Blaze take spoils in goal fest

Coventry Blaze survived throwing away a three-goal lead to beat Dundee Stars in a 10-goal thriller at the Skydome.

David Broll was ejected for boarding just 29 seconds into the game, but Coventry came out of the five-minute Stars' advantage two ahead. Ross Venus and Matt Pohlkamp both converted after mix-ups in the Stars' defense to put the Blaze two up with only 5:08 played. Dillon Lawrence made it three at 17:12, but 15 seconds later Kevin Dufour got Dundee in the game with the Stars' opener.

Venus put the Blaze three ahead again at 27:55 but Anthony Beauregard, at the heart of much of Dundee's attacking threats, pulled them back to within two at 29:38 and Brett Stovin made it a one-goal game five minutes later. Momentum was with the Stars and they duly equalised through Drydn Dow 2:51 before the end of the period.

Coventry got the all-important next goal however with Dillon Lawrence getting his second of the night at 42:05, and five minutes later John Curran scored short side to put the Blaze into a lead that this time they wouldn't surrender.
