The wait is almost over, with the 2026/27 Motorpoint Elite League season getting under way this weekend.
After several weeks of pre-season action, all 10 teams now turn their attention to competitive hockey, with Challenge Cup games opening the new campaign.
Saturday marks the first chance for teams to put points on the board following a summer of roster changes, returning players and two new Head Coaches entering the league. Tim Wallace takes charge of Fife Flyers, while Scott Dutertre begins his first season behind the Dundee Stars bench.
There are also familiar targets on the backs of last season’s trophy winners. Belfast Giants begin the campaign as defending Motorpoint Elite League champions, Nottingham Panthers hold the Challenge Cup, while Cardiff Devils enter the season as reigning Motorpoint Playoffs champions.
Manchester Storm also have another piece of history ahead of them. After returning to the AO Arena during pre-season, they will play their first competitive game at the venue in more than 20 years this season.
A number of changes will also be in place for 2026/27. Updated IIHF rules come into force, expanded Coach’s Challenges will be available throughout the season, and updated Roster Regulations have also been introduced.
Challenge Cup points are on the line from the opening weekend, with every team looking to make an early statement as the new season begins.
