Wins for Clan and Flyers in pre-season, Giants beaten in OT

Three teams played pre-season games on Friday night, including a first look at Belfast Giants and Fife Flyers this season.

Belfast Giants led 2-0 and 3-1 against Herlev Eagles of Denmark, but a late tying goal with 90 seconds remaining, scored six-on-four, sent the game to overtime. Just 50 seconds into bonus hockey, Carl Skarstrom won it for the visitors.

Glasgow Clan picked up their first win of pre-season, but had to come from two goals down against HK Liepāja of Latvia.

Clan were two behind inside five minutes, but pulled one back through Deven Sideroff at 5:28. Ross Armour levelled just 45 seconds into the second period, but Niklāvs Lagzdiņš put the Latvians back ahead. Tristin Langan tied the game at 24:58, before goals 2:12 apart from Steven Seigo and Alex Forbes put Clan 5-3 ahead in the third. The Latvians made it interesting when Dāniels Andersons pulled one back with 2:52 to play, but Sideroff ended the game with an empty-netter 27 seconds before time.

In Fife, an 11-goal thriller saw the Flyers beat Kyiv Capitals 6-5 in overtime. The home side led, went behind, led again, and were eventually pulled back to 5-5 by 53:56. In overtime, Joe Pierce snuck the puck through to earn Tim Wallace his first win as Flyers Head Coach.
