Shields appointed to Giants' backroom team

Belfast Giants have announced that former player Colin Shields will join the club as Performance Coach for the 2026/27 season.

Shields, who was awarded an MBE in 2023, retired as the Elite League’s all-time leading points scorer with 739 points, a record he held until Robert Dowd surpassed it during the 2024/25 season.

During a distinguished playing career, he won three Elite League titles, Challenge Cup honours and a Playoff championship. He remains the Giants’ all-time record holder for goals, assists and points.

Commenting on his appointment, Shields said: “I’m incredibly proud to join the Belfast Giants in this role. Having spent my playing career in professional sport, I understand the physical and mental demands that come with performing at the highest level, and I’m excited to use that experience to help the players maximise their potential.

“The Giants have built a culture of excellence over many years, and I’m looking forward to working alongside Adam [Keefe], the coaching team and the medical staff to ensure the players are prepared to compete at the highest standard every time they step onto the ice.”
