Elite League Statement - CHL 2026/27 Participation

Belfast Giants will not participate in the 2026/27 Champions Hockey League

The Elite Ice Hockey League can confirm that its 2025/26 Regular Season Champions, the Belfast Giants, will not participate in the 2026/27 Champions Hockey League.

This follows a decision by the CHL based on scheduling principles relating to the staging of home fixtures during the opening weekends of the competition.

The Belfast Giants were able to offer three home dates within the CHL window and worked collaboratively with the league to propose a number of alternative scheduling solutions. However, the CHL determined that these options could not be accommodated.

As a result, the Elite League will not have a representative in the 2026/27 Champions Hockey League.

The Elite League is disappointed with this outcome, particularly given our long standing and consistent contribution to the competition in terms of attendance, engagement from fans and on-ice performance.

We will continue to engage with the CHL ahead of the 2027/28 season to support future participation.

As league winners, the Belfast Giants remain eligible to compete in the IIHF Continental Cup.
