The first Roses Derby at Playoff Weekend since 2002 ended in a big scoreline and a record breaking performance.

Steelers would open the scoring on the Powerplay, Brady Gilmour hit the box for Hooking, a shot by Dominic Cormier would find the stick of Ryan Tait in the net front. The score would remain 1-0 for the rest of the first period, the lions share of the chances went to the Steelers but DeRidder turned them all away.

Just over half way through the game and the Steelers would double the advantage, Cormier finds Balmas behind the net who passes to the top of the crease for Mitchell Heard to tap home past DeRidder.

An Evan Jasper interception turned into a breakaway, Jasper would break through the defence and snapped the puck past DeRidder for the third of the night. Another Powerplay for the Steelers and another Powerplay goal, Ryan Tait slotting the puck home once again on a broken play. Steelers would score again on the Powerplay with just over a minute to play, Mitchell Heard completing a brace at the net front putting the Steelers up by five. Thirty seconds later and the Steelers would add a sixth, the Stephen Harper one timer beat Drew DeRidder on the glove side.

After three months, Matthew Greenfield became the shutout leader in Sheffield Steelers history surpassing Jody Lehman. Post Game Matthew Greenfield said “As long as you come out and give the boys a chance. I mean, my job was pretty easy.”

Storm Captain Chase Harrison said “Not the result we wanted, it was a closer game than the score showed. I am really proud of this group for getting here.”
