Guildford Flames ended their Scottish double header with their second win on successive nights, thrashing Fife Flyers 6 to 1 in Kirkcaldy.

“It’s a huge win for us, making it two after last night in Glasgow,” said Flames forward Jake Coughler, who scored twice. “Where we are in the standings it’s really tight and we need every point we can get. Fife is a hard building to come and win in.”

A scoreless opening period was followed by a tied middle frame. Matt Alvaro opened the scoring just over three minutes into period two from close range, while with just five seconds left in the period Johan Porsberger poked a loose puck past Justin Fazio to tie the game.

“I thought we had a little bit of a slow start, but had a lot of momentum in the second,” added Coughler. “Obviously they got that tying goal at the end of the period which deflated us a little, but we got rolling again in the third.”

Mathieu Gosselin scored 49 seconds into the third to put the Flames back ahead, before an avalanche of goals saw the visitors pull clear. Coughler made it three at 51:53, before Ethan Strang blasted home from the point 28 seconds later. Lewis Hook made it five at 53:09, while Coughler added a power play goal with 4:28 remaining after Jeremy Masella was ejected for starting a fight with him.

Coughler concluded: “The support we had this weekend was incredible. It’s a really far trip for us and we cannot thank them enough.”
