Sheffield Steelers ended their Scottish triple-header with a win, logging six goals in a convincing victory against Dundee Stars on Sunday night.
A scoreless opening period in Dundee saw both sides generate a number of quality chances throughout. The Stars came close to beating Matt Greenfield on several rush opportunities, while the Steelers’ best chances came on back-to-back powerplays.
Sheffield opened the scoring just thirty two seconds into the second period through Mitchell Balmas, who found space in the high slot and fired a shot past Jarrett Fiske.
Mikko Juusola made it 2-0 at 23:05, capitalising on scramble in front of the Stars’ net to knock the puck past Fiske. Dominic Cormier added a third for the visitors at 26:35, pouncing on a rebound after Fiske made an initial save on Mitchell Heard. Jordon Southorn sent a back-door pass to Ryan Tait, who made mistake in burying the puck to make it 4-0 at 33:30.
After Fiske made the initial stop on Ryan Tait, the puck fell to Mitchell Balmas, who scored his second of the night at 46:02 with a long-range shot past the Stars’ netminder.
Mitchell Balmas completed his hat trick at 59:11 with a wraparound goal into the Stars’ net, securing the win for his side and a vital two points.
