Clan double up on Flyers

Glasgow Clan beat Fife Flyers for the second time in two nights, winning by a single goal in front of a bumper holiday crowd in Kirkcaldy.

Recent signing Brady Risk put the Clan ahead 3:02 into the game when he finished from an excellent Brayden Burke pass to the far post. Josh Winquist pounced on a turnover in the Clan zone at 15:05, lifting the puck over Sami Aittokallio to tie the game.

“It was a battle from start to finish. We knew Fife would come hard, especially at home, and they did,” said Risk. “I thought we did a good job, we didn’t have a great start but I thought we had a really good second and then did what we needed to do in the third.”

Period two had a pair of big moments – one goal stood, one did not. With just over three minutes left, the Flyers thought they had gone ahead, but Gino Finoro’s effort was ruled out after review for a kicking motion. With 50 seconds remaining in the period, Ryan Schwart’s hard work forced a turnover and set up Deven Sideroff, who beat Shane Owen to restore Glasgow’s lead.

Fife pulled Owen with just under two and a half minutes to play, but could not find an equaliser and fell short by the narrowest of margins.

“I haven’t been here too long, but I knew the team had lost a few and it was important to get the two wins here,” added Risk. “These rivalry games are always the most fun. It feels like playoff hockey and they’ve been really enjoyable.”
