Devils double up on Gap

Cardiff Devils capped off an excellent opening weekend of pre-season with a second straight victory over Rapaces de Gap, running out 5-1 winners in front of another sellout crowd at the Vindico Arena.

Kohen Olischefski opened the scoring just four minutes in, before Joey Martin finished off a Ryan Barrow feed to make it 2-0 with a shorthanded marker at 11:08. Gap’s task became even tougher late in the first period when Olivier Dame Malka was ejected for cross-checking.

As they had done the previous night, the Devils struck twice in quick succession early in the second. Barrow and then Josh MacDonald found the net just 80 seconds apart to give the hosts a commanding 4-0 lead. Paul Cerdà replied for Gap with a short-side finish past Christian Stoever, but Gleason Fournier restored Cardiff’s four-goal cushion just over a minute later with a blast from the blue line.

The Devils controlled proceedings throughout, finishing the night having won more than 63% of faceoffs against their French visitors to complete a dominant weekend sweep.
