The game, played in IceSheffield, was both teams' second warm-up game ahead of the new season - both the Steelers and Panthers were beaten in their opening matches.
Marc-Olivier Vallerand opeend the scoring after just 93 seconds after which it was a comfortable night for the hosts. Daniel Leavens scored twice either side of a Mark Simpson goal to have the Steelers four up inside 24 minutes. The returning Sam Herr got the Panthers on the board just over halfway through, although Patrick Watling put the hosts' fifth on the board five minutes from the end of the second. There were no goals in the final period.
The Steelers will pay Cardiff Devils twice this weekend in their last games before the CHL, while the Panthers will face Manchester and then Lausitzer Füchse of the DEL2 this weekend.
