League title could be won in Week 27

Sheffield Steelers could lift the league trophy in Week 27, and it could be as early as Wednesday night.

Aaron Fox's team are looking for their first league title 2015/16, having already secured their first Challenge cup title since 2020 last week. The magic number for the Steelers to win the league is 83 points - the maximum the Devils can get. They currently have 79.

The maths for the Steelers' is simple for Wednesday's night's trip to Cardiff:

  • A regulation win is enough for the Steelers to win the league title

That regular win is enough to give Sheffield the four-point swing over Cardiff that they need to take the title, with the Devils unable to catch the Steelers on Regulation Wins - the first tie-breaker.

What happens if the Steelers don't win?
Were the Devils to win in in regulation, the Steelers would still need four more points to get the league title - setting up the possibility for them to clinch the title on Sunday at home to Guildford, the team they beat in the cup final, assuming they can win in Nottingham on Saturday night.

If Wednesday night's game went to overtime or a shootout, but the Devils won, the Steelers would still need to pick up three more points to secure the title.

Where things change slightly is if the Steelers win on Wednesday in overtime or a shootout, then they'd only need a point to take the title.

Cardiff's home game against Nottingham on Sunday could also change the maths if the Steelers don't take care of business themselves.
