Steelers add another former CHL champion

Finnish forward Kolehmainen arrives in Sheffield

33-year-old forward Janne Kolehmainen has been added to the Sheffield Steelers' roster to give Head Coach Aaron Fox more options while the club struggles with injuries.

The Finn joins from JYP Jyväskylä where he won the Champions Hockey League in 2018. He had spent his entire career in the Liiga `until now, playing more than 800 games and scoring 170 points.

“Janne is a big power forward who plays a very effective and heavy two/-way game. I was really looking for someone who can add some grit to our forward group and be responsible defensively and help our penalty kill," explained Steelers Head Coach Fox. "He played with Mikko and I know he will also bring high character to the room. We can move Eric Meland back to the back end for the time being while we have Aaron, Jonas and James recovering. We are still hopeful to extend Mikko after his contract ends this weekend as well. If not we will look for a replacement as soon as possible”.
