Bode Wilde was Cardiff Devils' hero in more ways than one on Sunday night in Guildford, tying the game late and then scoring three times in the shootout that eventually decided the game.

Cole Ully's opening goal was cancelled out by Austin Glover 4:45 before the end of period one as things were tied after 20 minutes at the Spectrum.

Brett Ferguson put the Flames ahead 2:11 into period two, only for Joey Martin to hit back for the Devils 73 seconds later to keep things leve. Goals from Matt Tugnutt and Ben O'Connor, however, put the Flames 4-2 ahead heading into the final period of regulation.

Brandon Alderson pulled one back for the visitors with 13:11 to go, before Wilde came up with the tying goal on an odd-man play with just 17 seconds left in period three. Peter Crinella had arguably the best chance of overtime for the Flames, while the Devils messed up a 2-on-0 without getting a shot off when it seemed easier to score. Marcus Crawford missed a late penalty shot as overtime somehow didn't produce a winner.

In the shootout, Wilde scored in round one with Ferguson only tying things up in round five. Wilde scored again in sudden death with a nasty move, although Matt Alvaro's top-shelf finish kept things tied. Wilde scored his third penalty shot in the next round, while Bradley Lalonde couldn't beat Wall to give the Devils the extra point.
