Printz suspended for one game for Boarding

Giants forward receives suspension

On Sunday night in Cardiff, Giants forward Greg Printz was assessed a Major Penalty and Game Misconduct for Boarding Devils’ Chad Pietroniro.

As the video shows, Pietroniro pursues a loose puck behind the Devils net as Printz tracks him from the slot. Pietroniro reaches the puck and pivots his body towards the boards while making a play with the puck. With time to make a better decision, Printz hits forcefully into Pietroniro's back side driving him forcefully into the Boards. This is Boarding.

It is important to note while Pietroniro does turn to face the boards during this play, this is not a case of a player turning his back in a way that turns a legal hit into an illegal one. While Pietroniro could do a better job of defending himself from a forechecker he knows is approaching, the onus is on Printz to deliver this hit in a legal fashion, minimize the force of the hit or avoid this hit entirely. Instead he hits forcefully into Pietroniro driving him dangerously into the boards.

To Summarise:

  • This is Boarding
  • Injury - Pietroniro suffered an injury on the play removing him from the game.
  • No History - Printz has neither been suspended nor fined during the 2023/24 EIHL season.

Effective immediately Belfast Giants #48 Greg Printz is  fined and suspended for one game.

The Giants were notified of this suspension at 9:42 am on Wednesday morning.
