Panthers come from two down, win in shootout

Nottingham Panthers responded to a bad home loss to rivals Sheffield on Saturday night by coming back from two down in Guildford on Sunday before beating the Flames in a shootout to take their first league points of the season.

Jordan Klimek put the home side ahead inside five minutes, with Ben O'Connor firing a shot past Rok Stojanovič from distance to make it 2-0 with 16;56 played. A fortunate bounce got the Panthers back into things 30 seconds before the first intermission with Adam Johnson credited with the powerplay goal.

Having weathered some Flames pressure in the second, the Panthers levelled 8:59 into the third period through Didrik Henbrant to set up an exciting final 11 minutes in which they arguably had the better chances to win it. Neither side could find a winner in 60 minutes or overtime and do the bonus point was decided in a shootout - Brett Ferguson was the only scorer through five rounds for the hosts, while Mathieu Lemay's effort in Round 3 complimented Alexander Lunsjo's in Round 1 to get the Panthers the win.
