Sheffield Steelers added some size to their forward options with the arrival of 6'5 centre Mark Simpson.

The 28-year-old Canadian  scored five goals ans assisted on six others in 31 games last season for Asiago in the ICEHL, a team coached by former Steelers Head Coach Tom Barraso. He began the season with eight games in Finland before heading to Italy.

2022/23 was the Canadian's first year outside of North America. He spent two seasons in the AHL with Stockton (14 points in 55 games), and prior to that four years at the University of New Brunswick in USports with 77 points in 109 games.

"Mark will bring a ton of character and energy to our group" said Head Coach Aaron Fox. "Mark prides himself on his two way play and plays every shift the right way. He skates extremely well for his size which I think will cause real problems in this league.

"Watching Mark, he is excellent in the faceoff circle and is the type of guy winning teams need on the ice and in their dressing room.

"I feel his game will translate very well in the UK and not only will he be a great team player I believe he will be a guy who has the potential to run some nice offensive numbers here. I’m looking forward to having him in and help us achieve our goals."
