Devils shut out playoff-chasing Flyers

Fife's playoff hopes took another dent with a shutout defeat in Cardiff, giving the Devils the home sweep over the Flyers this season.

After a scoreless opening period, the Devils won the game with two goals in the remaining two to go level with Sheffield in third ahead of their meeting on Sunday.

Brodie Reid and Josh Waller had goals 56 seconds apart in period two to put the home side firmly in control. Justin Crandall gave Cardiff some breathing room with his side's third 4:32 into period three before Reid ended the scoring with a powerplay marker 2:12 before the end.

The result leaves the Flyers needing to win both of their remaining games, and hope Glasgow pick up no more points, to make the post-season. Cardiff head to Sheffield on Sunday in a direct battle for third place.
