Saturday: BIG rivalries could shape title race

Saturday night in the Viaplay Elite League brings us some big rivalries, the results of which will go some way to shaping the title race for the rest of this season.

Belfast Giants and Cardiff Devils have had many a double-header showdown over recent seasons, but this year the Giants host the Devils as they look to close in on a third-successive league championship. The Giants lead the league by five points, but the Devils are only six behind as they head to the SSE Arena for two games this weekend. Both teams have only six games left this season, meaning the Devils realistically need to win both to stay in the title race. Belfast know that a pair of wins, plus some results in their favour elsewhere, could set them up to play for the trophy next week. Defeats for the Devils could also see them dragged down into a battle for fourth with Coventry.

It's retro night in Sheffield when the Steelers welcome the Panthers to town, and the home side are going all out over their two home games this weekend with two recreated iconic looks, plus a host of former players being welcomed to the Utilita Arena. On the ice, the Steelers need to extend their winning streak to three, and then four, games if they're to have any chance of catching leaders Belfast. Sheffield are five points behind with six games to play, including a visit to Belfast next week. Nottingham are involved in a fight for sixth with Manchester - were both of these teams to stay where they are, they would meet in the Playoff Quarter-Finals.
