Saturday: Devils, Stars, Steelers, and Storm will little room for mistakes

If Cardiff Devils or Sheffield Steelers want to stay in the Viaplay Elite League title race, they have little margin for error heading into this weekend's games; while Dundee and Manchester meet in a battle for a playoff place.

Cardiff go into Nottingham hoping to turn around a disappointing run of form at the Motorpoint Arena, and also with a chance to get themselves back in the title race with this game and the visit of Guildford Flames on Sunday. The Panthers, meanwhile, slipped to seventh midweek and are looking to climb the table ahead of the playoffs.

Dundee Stars and Manchester Storm have a lot of the line when they meet on Tayside. Storm took a 3-2 win when the sides met south of the border last weekend, with the Stars now finding themselves five points off a playoff place with 14 games to go. Manchester will stay sixth with any points from this game and could potentially give themselves a nine-point cushion above falling out of the playoffs.

Sheffield Steelers scored one goal from open play in two league games last weekend, and four in three games in total, as they face Coventry in a home-and-home series over the next two days. A midweek defeat in Manchester saw the Steelers drop to four points off the league leaders with only one game in hand, a week after they were eliminated from the Challenge Cup by Fife. Coventry seem pretty locked in for fifth place, but a double over the Steelers would cut the gap down to just seven points heading into their final 12 games of the season.
