Flames stay hot on Giants' heels with shootout win

Peter Crinella scored the only goal of the shootout to earn Guildford Flames a valuable win over Coventry Blaze on Sunday at the Spectrum in a game where the hosts had to fight back from 3-1 down.

Brett Ferguson cancelled out Colton Yellow Horn's opener for the Blaze to leave the teams tied through 14 minutes, but it was another bad second period that looked like it could have been the Flames' downfall - Yellow Horn and Marly quince struck within just over two minutes of each other to make it 3-1 to the Blaze with 75 seconds left in period two.

Ryan Tait and Daniel Tedesco tied it up inside five third-period minutes before Logan Fredericks drove the net and finished high over Paavo Hölsä to put the hosts ahead with 13:50 to play. The drama wasn't over, however, with Quince tying the game when left alone in front at 56:33.

Overtime produced no winner, and in the shootout it fell to Crinella to win it with the final shot of round five.
