Stars beat Storm in 'must-win' home fixture

Dundee Stars kept their playoff hopes alive with victory in a must-win home fixture over seventh-placed Manchester Storm at Dundee Ice arena.

CarteR Folk beat Jeremy Brodeur with 4:22 played thanks to a fortunate deflection off Joe Hazeldine's skate to give Dundee an early lead. That was an advantage they held well into period two before doubling their lead through Hugo Reinhardt on his own rebound at 39:30, although the goal owed much to the work of Philippe Sanche forcing a turnover along the boards.

Manchester, who'd had 26 shots on Anton Svensson with no luck going into the closing stages, did finally find a way past the Stars netminder after some nice stick-work from Cole Carter before he unleashed a wrist shot low into the Swede's net.

If there were to be another goal it looked like Manchester would score it, but on a scramble around Brodeur's net Johan Eriksson's shot looped into the net to give the Stars a two-goal cushion with 4:48 to play. That's how it stayed to bring Dundee back to within four points of fife Flyers in xinth.
