Devils too hot for Flyers

A pair of powerplay goals in the opening period set Cardiff Devils on their way to a 7-1 home thrashing of Fife Flyers at a sold-out Ice Arena Wales on Saturday night.

With 1:48 played, Cole Sanford let a wrist shot fly from the blue line to beat Shane Owen and put the Devils ahead. Nice hands from Joey Martin in the slot saw him put the hosts two up with 7:25 played, but they were pegged back 3:11 into period three through Christian Hausinger - all three goals being scored on the powerplay.

Martin put the Devils back two ahead at 27:33, and the killer goal came with 59 seconds left in the middle period through Ben Davies to give the hosts a 4-1 lead. Brodie Reid struck 2:39 into period three, while goals from Riley Brandy and Sanford 38 seconds apart saw the Devils end with seven.

The result saw the Devils climb into second place in the Viaplay Elite League, six points off the top but with a game in hand.
