Hook wins it in OT for Giants

Belfast Giants needed overtime to get past Dundee Stars in front of 1,679 fans on Tayside on Saturday night in another close battle between these sides, the second within 24 hours.

Ryan Verrier's shot from the point went through a crowd and players to beat Jackson Whistle with 2:03 played at the Dundee Ice Arena, and was the only goal through not just the opening period but the first two in a tightly-contested game.

Anton Svensson in the Stars' net was finally beaten 3:48 into period three in bizarre fashion when an innocent-looking dump-in from Will Cullen took an odd bounce and flew past the home side's netminder into the net.

The Stars regained the lead with Elijah Barriga's goal at 55:55 when he wrapped a rebound behind Jackson Whistle. Steven Owre, however, pulled the visitors back level again, tapping off a Scott Conway shot at 57:56.

The game went into overtime and was eventually decided by Lewis Hook at 64:10 when the Giants broke on an odd-man rush, and neat passing between Hook and Owre saw the former finish past Svensson to get Belfast the extra point.
