Forward Mathias Sointu has left Cardiff after his five-week contract with the Devils came to an end, returning home in the hope of finding a spot on a team in a higher league.

The Finn arrived one game into the Devils' Champions Hockey League campaign and went on to lead the team for points (1+6) after the Group Stage. In EIHL action, Sointu played 21 games with a return of 5+11.

“We always knew this was a temporary situation and that Matias would be looking at other leagues throughout Europe,” explained Devils Head Coach Andrew Lord. “We have really benefitted having Matias with the club, he has been great for us. He came in when we needed someone for injury cover and ended up being an impact player for us. “I don’t think the door is ever closed with players like him.  You never know when you could see him back in Cardiff in years to come.”

Sointu, on his time with the Devils, added: “I have really enjoyed being a part of the Cardiff Devils.  The fans are great and the organisation treat the players very well.  I have enjoyed the experience, especially playing the Champions League and I wish the team well for the rest of the season.”
