Tonight: Reverse clashes and Scottish weekends

Three league games on Sunday night

This three-day hockey week ends with six teams in league action.

1700 Dundee Stars vs. Cardiff Devils

Dundee and Cardiff meet on Tayside with both teams looking for their first points of the weekend.

A manic two minutes in Glasgow cost the Stars their game last night against rivals Clan. Dundee won their last home game against Glasgow eight days ago, but that was their only victory in their last eight games overall.

Cardiff’s poor start cost them in Fife, and despite winning midweek the Devils haven’t been in the best of form of late. The team from Wales have only two wins from their last six in all competitions.

Yesterday was probably one of the best games we've played when we've lost. We have to find a way to play the way we did at the start more consistently and stick to our process. Overall in our last three games I’ve seen a lot more positives, but we do have to cut down on individual mistakes as that is what has been costing us." - Omar Pacha (Head Coach, Dundee Stars)

We all have to bring it every night, that is part of the deal of being in our organisation. We’ve been through this a number of times, and we need to find a response here.” – Andrew Lord (Head Coach, Cardiff Devils)

1730 Coventry Blaze vs. Belfast Giants

Ben Lake returns to the Skydome for the first time this season, 22 hours after the Giants ran out 4-1 winners when the sides met in Belfast.

Coventry were disappointed to not win midweek in Cardiff and were in the game last night for long stretches before going down by three - they will look to end a disappointing week with home comforts, a week after they beat Nottingham at the Skydome.

Belfast have quietly gone about their business and lead the league for points percentage, with 80% of those available in 10 games so far. The Giants moved up to third last night and could go at second with a win tonight.

We have to be willing to go to the hard areas if we want to be rewarded. Our best players will need to be our best players, and I’m expecting a response from the guys.” – Danny Stewart (Head Coach, Coventry Blaze)

It’ll be fun. I’m not sure what kind of reception I’ll receive but hopefully it’ll be a good one. I’m exciting to see some old friendly, but of course hoping that we get a win again.” – Ben Lake (Forward, Belfast Giants)

1800 Guildford Flames vs. Sheffield Steelers

Guildford will be hoping for role reversal this Sunday night as they take on Sheffield at the Spectrum.

A poor 10 minutes in the back half of last night’s opening period saw the Flames concede four goals from which there was unlikely to be much way back in Sheffield. That defeat ended the Flames recent winning streak.

Sheffield are one of the league’s form teams with only one defeat in their last five games, but are heading in to a rink where they don’t traditionally do well. Since Guildford stepped up to the Elite League two years ago, the Steelers have managed only two wins in Surrey.

The way I’ve broken it down to my guys is that we have a six game series against team in this league: three home and three away. We’ve been to Sheffield twice and lost two games, so it’s 0-2 and we must win at home.” – Paul Dixon (Head Coach, Guildford Flames)

Guildford are a good hockey team at home, but we’ve been very good on the road. We’ve found a way to play very simply on the road compared to at home and are very hard to handle when we get things deep and have defensemen turning.” – Aaron Fox (Head Coach, Sheffield Steelers)
