A five-goal third period helped Fife Flyers to an opening night win in the Premier Sports Challenge Cup on Friday night.

Zack Phillips' smart pass set up Jane Kivilahti for the opening goal at 2:44, a lead that lasted almost 12 minutes before Mathieu Roy levelled. Roy put Clan ahead at 27:09 when his shot ended up in the net off a Flyers' stick, before Colton Waltz made it 3-1 to the hosts at 28:47.

Things were looking good for the home side until a five-goal haul for the visitors in under ten minutes. Shaw Cameron brought the visitors back to within a goal 1:41 into period three, with Kivilahti tying the game at 46:14. Christian Hausinger put the Flyers ahead on the powerplay 33 seconds later, before Cameron hit two more in under 45 seconds to complete his hat trick and put Fife 6-3 up.

Two late Gary Haden goals gave Clan a chance to tie the game inside the final 90 seconds, but Shane Owen stood tall when needed and backstopped the Flyers to a 6-5 win.
