Stars clinch seventh in dramatic ending

A tying goal with 33 seconds left saw Dundee Stars snatch seventh place away from Coventry Blaze ahead of the 2022 Premier Sports Playoffs.

Coventry led for most of the game after going ahead through John Curran at 12:11, and he then got his second of the game at 21:33 off a beautiful pass from Janne Laakkonen to the back post. Charlie Combs pulled one back for the Stars at 30:14, and then also added a second with the tying goal at 50:51.

Dundee thought they'd gone ahead very soon after but the goal was called back for goaltender interference after video review, denying Combs his hat trick. To make matters worse for the Stars, an innocent Dillon Eichstadt throw on net was totally missed by Adam Morrison and trickled into the net to put the Blaze back ahead.

With 33 seconds left, Combs did hit his third of the night when he converted unmarked at the far post form a Spencer Dorowicz pass.

That point was enough to guarantee the Stars seventh, but they took the full two points when Philippe Sanche set up Sebastian Bengtsson for the OT winner on a 2-on-0 rush.
