Shane Starrett logged his second shutout of the season to help Glasgow Clan to a two-goal win over Sheffield Steelers on Wednesday night.

Guillaume Gauthier put the Clan ahead 11:21 into period one on the game's first powerplay - he got the final touch on a rebound from a Mitch Jones blueline effort to open the scoring. Cody Sol had Clan's best chance of the period to double their lead but shot straight into Barry Brust's chest.

Starrett stopped 23 shots through the opening 40 minutes to protect the home side's lead, a nice glove save and a couple of scrambles around the net keeping the Steelers out through two periods.

Starrett made a good low pad save to deny Marc-Olivier Vallerand an equaliser inside the final five minutes of the third period, and then another off a powerful Justin Hodgman slapshot not 60 seconds later.

Those stops were crucial in keeping the home side ahead going into the final stages of the game, forcing Sheffield to pull Brust for the extra skater. A final rush with 15 seconds to play saw the Steelers fail to get the puck deep, and Mathieu Roy pounced on the loose puck to fire home into the empty net and round off the game.
