Giants pick up valuable road win

Belfast got a much-needed road win in Guildford to end a three-game losing streak and ensure they kept in touch at the top of the Premier Sports Elite League table.

It was a tight game at the Spectrum but the hosts, who'd won 4-1 in Fife 23 hours earlier, did eventually take the lead with the only goal of the opening period - Level Cable shooting hard enough for the puck to slip through Tyler Beskorowany at 13:53.

Belfast levelled at 25:34 on the powerplay, a scramble in front of Kevin Lindskoug's net eventually being turned in by Jordan Boucher. A little over ten minutes later, the Giants turned the game around as Scott Conway pounced n a rebound from Kevin Raine's shot, and his follow-up somehow got through the Flames' netminder.

As the Flames pushed for an equaliser late in period three, Mark Cooper all but ended the game with the Giants' third with 69 seconds to play. Sam Ruopp found the empty net with 19 seconds left to confirm the win.

With Sheffield losing, the Giants went back to being three points behind having played a game more.
