Steelers back on top with narrow win

The Sheffield Steelers went back to the top of the Premier Sports Elite League thanks to a one-goal win on the road in Coventry - their third victory at the Skydome this season.

A game that was short on goals but high on tension exploded into life inside the opening six minutes. Sam Jones' shot from the blueline went through traffic to beat CJ Motte with 5:12 played and put the Steelers ahead. Just 17 seconds later, however, after the Steelers failed to clear their zone Johnny Curran found Ross Venus who beat ROk Stojanovič high from a tight angle.

One each was how the game stayed until the final ten minutes. A rebound off Tommaso Travera's shot fell kindly to Justin Hodgman who composed himself and pulled off the finish to put the Steelers back ahead on the powperlay with 8:51 to play. Things looked to be winding down for the Blaze but a penalty on the Steelers gave them home with only nine seconds left to play. Experience however from Vojta Polák to win the faceoff and collapse to his knees helped kill off the time clock and secure the two points for the Steelers.
