Storm make it two in a row against Giants

It's now two wins in as many days for Manchester Storm following a shootout win in Belfast - beating the Giants for the second time this season as well!

Belfast needed just over three minutes to open the scoring, 3:11 on the clock when Bobby Farnham went through and beat Matt Ginn five-hole shorthanded to give his side the lead. 12 seconds before the first buzzer Layne Ulmer capitalised on a bad giveaway to fire home from the slot and tie the game up.

Brian Ward deflected home Jordan Smotherman's pass for a powerplay goal 1:53 into the second to give the Giants the lead again, but they were shell-shocked by two Storm goals in thirty seconds. First it was young forward Finlay Ulrick capitalising on a fortunate bound to finish high past Shane Owen, and then Raymond Grewal's shot from the wing went through several screens to find the net and put the Storm ahead. Stephen Murphy replaced Owen in the Giants' net before play resumed.

Ben Lake tied the game with just over ten minutes to go in period three, but neither side could force a winner in regulation. Murphy pulled off a fabulous save to deny the Storm an overtime winner, but was unable to bail his side out in the shootout. Mario Puskarich, Tyson Fawcett and Jared Aulin all found the net for the Storm, and with Ward, Smotherman and Hamilton missing for the Giants Ben Lake's lone goal was not enough to earn them the extra point.
