Devils sweep Flames for second successive night

Cardiff came out on top against Guildford for the second night in a row a four-goal victory on the road at the Spectrum.

Having failed to score past Mac Carruth in 60 minutes the night before in Cardiff, the Flames wasted little time in beating the Devils' netminder on home ice - only 25 seconds in fact were needed before Chris Gerrie found the net from close range. The Devils tied the game at 5:14 thanks to Mark Richardson's 100th Elite League goal, and then began to take more control of the game.

In period two, the visitors took over. Just 41 seconds in, new signing Jake Coughler got his first for the Welsh side with a top-shelf snipe as he broke through 1-on-0 against Kevin Lindskoug. Coughler then added his second and his team's third of the night when his effort from a Trevor Cox feed crept through Lindskoug and over the line.

Jamal Watson smartly finished shorthanded while Alex Yuill sat an interference minor to get the Flames back to within one in a period where they were grateful to Lindskoug for keeping them in the game.

As the Flames looked to find an equaliser, Stephen Dixon converted from a Brodie Reid pass in front to put the Devils back ahead by two with a little over 12 minutes remaining. With less than four minutes left, John Dunbar couldn't find the perfect cross-crease pass to set up a 2-on-1 scoring chance, allowing the Devils to skate on an odd-man rush the other way where Matt Register set up Trevor Cox to make it 5-2 and kill the game off with 3:30 remaining.

Sam Duggan got the game's final goal off a Flames defensive turnover to seal a 6-2 win for the Devils.
