Flames cruise past Flyers

The Guildford Flames made light work of the Fife Flyers on Sunday night, thrashing their opponents from north of the border by 6-1 at the Spectrum.

Chris Gerrie put the Flames ahead at 6:43 using the 2-on-1 as a decoy before dekeing to fool Shane Owen and slotting into the empty cage. He made it 2-0 some five minutes later when the Flyers couldn't clear their zone, and Jake Bolton's shot produced a rebound for Gerrie to tuck home.

Robert Lachowicz fired home from the circle halfway through the game to put the hosts in a commanding 3-0 lead, before Brett Ferguson finished a nice give and go with Levi Cable to make it four at 33:37. Carson Stadnyk pulled one back for the Flyers just past the 35-minute mark, but Ferguson got his second of the game 73 seconds later to keep the Flames four ahead.

Ian Watter's bottle-popper in close a 37:44 ended up as the game's final goal in a win that keeps the Flames second overall in the Premier Sports Elite League, and only three points off top spot with a game in hand.
