Blaze make it a four-point weekend

Despite injuries and suspensions, the short-benched Coventry Blaze returned to home ice to beat Dundee 5-1 and record a well-deserved four-point weekend.

After Saturday's victory in the cup, the Blaze took two points in the Premier Sports Elite League in large part thanks to a four-goal spell in 17 minutes over the middle of the game.

Ryan Penny broke the deadlock 3:03 into the second period after both netminders kept the sides at bay during the opening 20 minutes. Two shorthanded goals changed the course of the match in the middle of the period. First Dane Gibson scored at 29:53, and then 20 seconds later Janne Laakkonen repeated the feat to put the Blaze three up. Charlie Combs' goal for the Stars pulled them back to within one shortly after, but that would be the only time they could beat CJ Motte on the night.

Penny and Luke Ferrars struck a little over three minutes apart at the start of the third to all but end the game, with the Blaze running out 5-1 winners and keeping themselves well in the top four.
