Five signings in Clan's Super Sunday

The Glasgow Clan's 'Super Sunday' saw the team add five more players to their line-up for 2021/22, as new Head Coach Malcolm Cameron prepares his squad ahead of the new season.

Fan-favourite Mathieu Roy (pictured) returns for his second season with the Clan, and this time will take on the additional duties of being an assistant coach to Cameron. Roy has scored 125 goals in 238 Elite League regular seasons games.

“I’m talking to Malcolm a lot as well and we have a good relationship,” Roy said. “He coached me back in Florida and knows what I can bring to a team.

“I appreciated his call to ask me to be his assistant and I’m excited to be doing that role, especially as he tried to hire me in that role in Wichita a few years ago.

“I want to play my game and find ways for us to win and do new things around the team, but Malcolm wants me to get involved, which I’m pleased with and it’s going to be fun.”

Clan also re-signed Matt Haywood, who enjoyed his testimonial season last time out. The 30-year-old has played over 600 games across all Elite League competitions, with all bar four of them being for the Clan. with whom he's been since 2010.

In net, the Purple Army will again be able to call on the services of Jordan McLaughlin. The young Scot was called upon to play nine games last time out and has become increasingly more popular with the club's fan base.

Defenseman Nolan LaPorte will also return for his second season with the Clan. The 29-year-old scored 16 goals and assisted on 23 others in 47 regular-season games.

Finally, 24-year-old Medric Mercier will get the chance to make his professional debut with the Clan, a year after signing with the team. The Canadian's move into pro hockey was put on hold when the season was cancelked last year, but Clan have stuck with the defenseman for the new season.
