Czech defenseman Marek Trončinský has joined Sheffield Steelers as injury cover. The Steelers were already without Aaron Johnson, and lost Jonas Liwing at the weekend.

The 31-year old began this season in Litvínov in the Czech Extraliga, playing five games. He has clocked up almost 600 matches across league and playoffs in his native country's top flight since debuting in 2005/06.

"Marek is a D who has played well at the highest levels in Europe. and felt like it was an easy decision once conversations started with his representation,” said Head Coach Aaron Fox. “He can play a physical gritty defensive game, and also skates well and has some offensive upside as he led all D-men in scoring in the Czech Extraliga in 2017-18. He should help us in all situations, and it felt like he was the best overall d-man that had been offered. I’m looking forward to getting him this week and ready for the weekend.”

Trončinský is expected to arrive in Sheffield tomorrow and be registered in time to play this weekend.
