Drew Fata (D)
Drew Fata will commence the second year of a two year contract at the start of the 2013-14 season in September.
Drew Fata signed a two year contract with the Sheffield Steelers which will see him play for the club until the end of the 2013-14 season as well as study at the University of Sheffield.
Fata brings a wealth of experience to the Steelers line up having played 8 NHL games (for the New York Islanders) and 321 American Hockey League games with Wilkes-Barrie, Bridgeport, San Antonio and Providence. Europe is also no stinger to the 29 year old blue liner having played for Sparta Sarpsborg (Norway) and Asiago (Italy) in the last two seasons.
A native of Sault Ste. Marie Fata spent the majority of his junior days with the Toronto St. Michael's Majors in the OHL before ending his junior career with Kingston Frontenaces in 2003.
His professional career began with a split season between Wilkes-Barrie (AHL) and Wheeling Nailers (ECHL). Between 2005-2009 Fata was a career AHL'er with two spells with the Islanders in 2007 and 2008
Drew Fata has in fact played against the Sheffield Steelers – in the 2011 Continental Cup in Denmark when playing for Asiago
Steelers head coach Ryan Finnerty on Drew Fata "He was just the player I was looking for to solidify the Steelers blue line. A leader, a winner and a warrior. His experience and the standard of hockey he has played leads me to think that we have signed not only a very capable player but one that can help us bring championships back to Sheffield
"Having played against Drew I can confirm that he is a tough player to play against, he hits hard and hits often. There will be no half measures with Drew that’s for sure"
