Tom Squires (RW)
What a first year Tom Squires had with the Steelers. The Sheffield born youngster found the back of the net 10 times in his rookie year - now he is back to see if he can do it all over again.
Squires will have no better opportunity either as he slips into the hole left by the departure of Robert Dowd to Belfast
Head coach Ryan Finnerty has high hopes "The lad has his head on his shoulders. I don't think he has been carried away with those 10 goals last year. He has amazing potential and with the import numbers dropping this season he has an incredible opportunity to break into the ranks of the bigger named British stars. I won't lie, we didn't want to lose Dowd but knowing we had a great prospect like Tom in the organisation softened the blow. It's our job to develop him and make him a 25 goal scorer like the Steelers did with Dowdy"
Squires is a full product of the excellent junior development programme in Sheffield. Starting his time at Queens Road with the Juniors Tom progressed through the ranks quickly. When the Juniors moved to Ice Sheffield in 2004 he was one of the clubs most promising youngsters. By the age of 16 he had made the ENL side and this quickly progressed to the Scimitars (EPL) where he played for three and a half seasons before making the step up to the pro's and the Steelers last year
"Hockey is my life, It has been since I started at Queens Road. I used to look at the Steelers and just dream of playing for them - now I do and I want that to continue for a long time yet" said Squires "It's a great feeling playing for your home town team. Knowing that the people in the stands are from your City. Our fans love every player that pulls on a Steelers top but I know they are pulling for me to do well as I am one of their own. I hope they know how hard I'm trying"
