Ashley Tait (RW)
Ashley Tait returns to Sheffield for the 2nd year of his second spell with the Steelers and joins head coach Ryan Finnerty as his assistant for the 2011-12 season.
Tait is widely regarded as one of the all time best British players and the Steelers have certainly benefited from him in their line up winning 4 trophies in the 3 seasons he has spent in the line up.
Whilst being born in Toronto, Ashley was raised in Nottingham and came through their ranks at the old Lower Parliament Street rink. In all Ash played 389 games for the Panthers before a move to Coventry in 2002
It was the start of a fantastic spell for Tait who Captained the Blaze to 5 league, play off and challenge cup trophies in a 5 season spell. In 251 games his scored 114 goals which made him one of the hottest properties in the British game
In 2007 Ashley made the transfer to the Steelers and in that time helped turn the clubs fortunes around. Under David Matsos Ash was part of the 2008 Play Off Championship side which then went one better in 2009 and collected the League and Play Off Double.
The free spirit that is Ashley Tait then went on his travels once again moving to Italy and a spell with Ritten Renon. 12 months later though he was back with the Steelers and back winning trophies as a player assistant coach under Ban Simon.
Taits 25 goals and 78 points helped the Steelers regain the Elite League title once again.
For season 2011-12 Tait will play a bigger role at the club alongside head coach Ryan Finnerty as the two plot to win more trophies for the UK’s most successful club. “In Sheffield its all about winning” said Ash “Both Ryan and I are young coaches learning the game from that position. We are both though very determined characters, very different but both are hungry for more silver
