A goal at the start of each period from Sheffield saw them go from bottom spot (albeit alphabetically) to the number one spot after the first games of the new season.
Jason Hewitt of the Steelers saw just over half the game as he was despatched on a 5 plus game for slashing at 32.22.

With a minute of the third period played the home fans were celebrating goal number four as Jeff Legue netted. Devils got a consolation goal as Scott Matzka netted a shorthanded goal at 41.48. The final goal of the game was another shorthanded effort and this time it was for the home side as Robert Dowd hit home the Steelers fifth of the night at 58.20.
