Challenge Cup Group B
Cardiff Devils 3 Hull Stingrays 4
A huge game in the Welsh capital, as the last quarter final spot in the Challenge Cup was up for grabs. Just before the game started it was announced that the latest Devils signing was Paul Bissonette from Phoenix Coyotes. Without a win on the road this season the Stingrays picked the perfect time to record their first win as they triumphed over the Devils to reach the Challenge Cup quarter finals.
The visitors got off to the perfect start as Jason Silverthorn fired them in front at 6.48 and they doubled their lead with a strike from Jereme Tendler at 9.53. As the period was coming to a close the Stingrays extended their lead at 18.35 as Cale Tanaka slotted home.
Things got even worse for the home side at 24.01 as Tom Squires signed on a two-way deal from Sheffield Steeldogs gave the visitors a four goal lead. Shortly after this Devils went on the powerplay and took full advantage of the extra man as Chris Blight at 27.05 opened the home sides account. That goal re-ignited the Devils and on their next powerplay at the halfway point they once again made the extra man count as player/coach Gerad Adams found the net at 31.30 to reduce the deficit to two.
The next goal was going to be huge and it was the home fans that were celebrating at 46.38 as Mac Faulkner netted the Devils third powerplay goal of the game to get them within one. Despite getting that goal the home side were unable to get the game back on level terms and the Stingrays held on for the win.
