HULL MOVE FOR TANAKA

July 31, 2012

Hull Stingrays press release

Rapid Solicitors Hull Stingrays are pleased to confirm the signing of Canadian forward Cale Tanaka for the 2012/13 Elite League campaign.

The 26-year-old native of Stouffville, Ontario, was recommended to player-coach Sylvain Cloutier by former Stingrays forward Andrew Coburn.

The pair played three seasons together for the University of Alabama-Huntsville in the National Collegiate Athletic Association, winning a championship in 2009/10.

Before that Tanaka, who has Scottish ancestry, represented Stouffville Spirit and Aurora Tigers in the Ontario Junior Hockey League, registering 141 points in 183 games.

Two years ago he had a spell in France with Montpellier and last season was with Dundas Real McCoys in the Ontario Hockey Association's Major League Hockey, scoring a point a game.

Cloutier said: “Cale Tanaka was highly recommended by Andrew Coburn, they played together in college.

“Andrew said he comes to play every night and is a real professional on and off the ice and that's the type of team we want to put together in Hull.

“He will fit right in with our group of forwards and he will play a big role up front with our specials teams.

“I am really looking forward to playing alongside him and coaching him.”

Tanaka joins Cloutier, Jereme Tendler, Ben Bowns, Chris Sykes, Janis Ozolins, Jason Silverthorn, Shane Lovdahl, Tomas Valecko, Ryan Hand, Kurtis Dulle, Dominic Osman, Andy Ward and Sam Towner on next season’s roster.
