With all four clubs having a free Saturday, Nottingham Panthers, Braehead Clan, Coventry Blaze and Sheffield Steelers have organised a twenty-20 tournament at the National Ice Centre called the Aladdin Cup.
A new-style four team twenty-20 hockey tournament will take place at the Capital FM Arena in Nottingham on Saturday March 12th with the four clubs battling it out four-on-four for a prize fund and a special trophy.
The fast and furious event will see the Nottingham Panthers, the Coventry Blaze, the Sheffield Steelers and the Braehead Clan go head-to-head with the top two teams progressing to the final.
Each game will last for twenty minutes, running clock with two points for a win and one for a draw.
The sides with the best records will then progress to the Grand Final and play for the trophy and the winners' cheque.
A quirk in the fixtures schedule has made it possible to stage this exciting event for the fans on what is traditionally hockey night in Nottingham. Talks over staging the event have been ongoing for the last 48 hours and can now be confirmed.
Instead of two and five minute penalties, infractions will carry one and three minute calls. Penalties will be run stop time, while the game continues on a running clock. The maximum roster size will be 20 players.
The emphasis will be on speed and skill, tactics and gameplans.
Pride and passion will be on the line. The event starts at 7pm and as soon as one contest ends the next will begin. It'll be all action, all entertainment, as a man's sport, watched by families, tackles a new dimension.
The four competing teams have a history with each other. Nottingham and Sheffield are the biggest rivals in the sport in Europe, Nottingham and Coventry have a long running feud, and Braehead are led by former Panther Bruce Richardson whose brand new team have been a thorn in the Panthers' side all season long and have given the other squads a taste of defeat along the way too.
Special reduced prices will apply. Nottingham season ticket holders have until March 6th to book their own particular locations before they join the rest of the seats on general sale. Blocks are being reserved for the travelling fans from Sheffield and Coventry and Braehead.
Every fan will see their own team for at least three periods of frantic four-on-four action.
Away fans prices are just £13 adults, £10 concessions, £6 U14s. The ticket hotline is on 08444124624. If you're supporting Sheffield or Coventry or Braehead let the box office staff know so that you buy alongside your fellow supporters.
